East Baltimore Youth to Obtain New Skills, Education and Career Development at a New Youth Opportunity (YO!) Community Satellite

WHAT:

Open House for the East Baltimore Community Corporation Youth Opportunity Community Satellite. The afternoon celebration will showcase resources recently put in place to support at-risk, Empowerment Zone youth succeed despite the odds. The new YO! Satellite boasts a state-of-the-art Urban Technology Computer Lab, staff to help youth address their barriers, as well as the latest learning technology. Guests will also get a first-hand look at this new community resource for youth.

WHO:

State Senator Nathaniel McFadden; President of EBCC, Dr. Marie Washington; 92Q D.J. Kay Swift, community leaders and organizers, area residents, YO! members and staff from the Baltimore Youth Opportunity Movement. The event is hosted by the East Baltimore Community Corporation in partnership with the Mayor's Office of Employment Development (OED). 92Q will broadcast live from the event.

Background:

Last year, Baltimore City was one of 36 communities to win competitive Youth Opportunity Grants from the U.S. Department of Labor. Baltimore was one of only four cities across the country to receive the largest available award of $44 million. Youth Opportunity Grants target out-of-school, at-risk youth.
