Workforce Challenge 

After graduating from Morgan State University, Regina Webster got married, relocated to Florida and worked at various construction companies in her area. She later returned to Baltimore due to unexpected family circumstances and found herself out of work. Regina quickly accepted a position with a small business and worked there for one year until she was laid off due to downsizing.

Still dealing with her family issues and the loss of her most recent job, Regina visited the Eastside One-Stop Career Center managed by the Mayor’s Office of Employment Development on March 7, 2017. She was assigned to a case manager who revised Regina’s resume to accurately reflect her construction expertise and marketable skills. With Regina’s extensive career history of working with mid-level to large business contractors, she was a great candidate for a position involving the 21^st Century School Buildings Plan to build new and renovate older Baltimore City public schools.

Outcomes & Benefits

MOED connected Regina with Cain Contracting, a local construction company assisting with the renovation of Cherry Hill Elementary and Middle School, and helped prepare her for her interview. Within three weeks, Regina accepted a job offer as a Project Coordinator with Cain Contracting assigned to the Cherry Hill school project. One of more than 500 Baltimore City residents working through the 21^st Century School Buildings Plan, Regina is earning a salary well beyond her expectations and is responsible for estimating, bidding, contract management and job site quality control.

Regina also expressed interest in earning an Accounting/Bookkeeping certificate to broaden her scope for future career options. MOED staff at the Eastside Career Center assisted her in submitting an application for a certification class at Towson University.
