BALTIMORE – The Mayor’s Office of Employment Development (MOED) was honored by Baltimore Magazine in its August 2005 issue for being the Best of Baltimore 2005 – Job Training Program. In this 30th annual “Best of Baltimore” issue that recognizes the very best that Baltimore has to offer, Baltimore Magazine cited MOED’s regional career and youth centers that served over 18,000 jobseekers last year as one reason the Baltimore City agency deserved the award. “We are very pleased that Baltimore Magazine acknowledged the great work that MOED provides to Baltimore City’s job seekers. We respond to the employment needs of citizens of all ages and backgrounds and connect them to jobs and training opportunities that help them reach their career goals. It’s truly an honor for our agency to be recognized in this way,” said Karen Sitnick, MOED director. In addition to serving over 18,000 job seekers, Baltimore Magazine mentioned MOED’s digital learning labs, GED classes, and the YouthWorks summer jobs program that places up to 5,500 youth 14-21 in 400 job sites across the city. These are a few of the many outstanding services that MOED offers job seekers. “Our career centers are indeed “one-stop shops” that provide a range of employment services, such as workshops that improve interviewing skills and resume writing, assessment tests, free access to computerized job searches, and job placements,” said Craig Lewis, program manager of the Eastside Career Center. MOED also provides many business services to employers that are essential to complete the connection with job seekers, such as recruitment and pre-screening of prospective job candidates and Customized Training, an employer-driven program that helps businesses train and hire people to fit their job-specific needs.
