What is the SMWB subsidy?

The Small and Minority and/or Women-owned Business (SMWB) Wage Subsidy supports Baltimore City business owners in hiring Baltimore City residents. Businesses may be reimbursed for wages of $6,000 for up to 3 residents, totaling $18,000. Pimlico Community Development Authority (PCDA) has allocated $198,000 in wage subsidies for employers. The subsidy will remain open as long as funds are available.

Requirements to participate:

A business is eligible for a wage subsidy if it meets all of the following criteria:

  • Address located in Park Heights neighborhood that is surrounded by W Northern Pkwy, Greenspring Ave, Baltimore Metro Track, and Wabash Ave.
  • Not a franchisee of a business with locations outside of Maryland (no national chains)
  • Small business that has 100 or fewer employees
  • 51% or more of the business share is minority and/or woman-owned; the business does not need to be certified
